French Food Mon Amour

What better way to spend a Friday evening than to cuddle up with your favourite honey at a dark french bistro sipping fine wine and eating frites? Well from one food connoisseur to another, I recently found a local gem in my neighborhood called Bistro Tournesol. I have passed by this place tons of times and always made fun of the dusty old white people that came here. But, after meeting some dude at a party that used to work there and hearing his glowing praises about the resident chef, I couldn't wait to see for myself if his french cooking was really as mouth-watering as it sounded. Dean and I were not disappointed. Unbelieveable and by far, some of the best french food I've had since being in France some years ago. What's great about french food is of course how simple and understated the cooking can be even though the flavours and ingredients are rich and often orgasmic. For a decent fixed price, you have a choice of 2 courses. I chose the mussles and white bass, both delectable!!! I could barely speak it was so good. Dean opted for the escargots (of course you gotta go as french as possible) and the lightly seared liver. I am not a fan of liver, but i must say, it opened my eyes seeing how tender and juicy Dean's dish was. And of course, the escargots in butter and garlic were amazing. The mussles I had were cooked lightly in a white wine, thyme and garlic butter broth. Very mild which was perfect to bring out the natural flavour of the mussles. My main course was a lightly breaded white bass, coated with some japanese type of flake and sprinkled with sesame oil and a touch of chili spice. Without a doubt some of the best food I've eaten in a long time and generous servings complete with a side of frites. And it even inspired us to cook some mussles ourselves the next day. It has been a weekend of complete culinary abandon as we thew off the gloves and tore in hard core in the kitchen. Goes to show a good fancy meal is worth it sometimes. Also, I must admit that I've misjudged the place. I would recommend to anyone.

bon appetit!
